Loop Tips: Detailed View – Tech Tip for June 25, 2025

In this week’s tech tip, we are following up on last week’s video recording and sharing features in Microsoft Loop by introducing another smart way to keep your content organized: Detailed View. Loop tables and boards are great for keeping things concise, but what happens when you need to include supporting context like notes, links, checklists—or even a recorded walkthrough? That is where Detailed View steps in! It gives each task or table row its own expandable workspace, so you can keep high-level views clean while still housing all the important details in the same space.

Use Cases Where Detailed View Shines

Detailed View is designed to keep your main Loop page clean while still giving each task or entry the space it needs. Here are a few practical ways that your team can put this to use:

  • Bug tracking: Include a SharePoint link to a screen recording in the main row, then open the detail panel to document reproduction steps and assign follow-ups.
  • Sprint planning: Summarize key features in the main view, and use Detailed View to track sub-tasks, blockers, and priority notes.
  • Design feedback: Pair a Figma link with checklists and comments scoped to that component or screen.

TIP: Let detail panels replace follow-up emails. Instead of sending additional files or Slack messages, add comments and resources directly inside the item so collaborators always know where to look.

How to Use Detailed View in Microsoft Loop

To start using Detailed View, you will need either a table or a Kanban board or template already in your Loop page.

Open a Workpage in Loop in a Browser:

How to Open and Work with Detailed View:

  • Open or create a Loop page with a table inserted or Kanban board template.
  • Tables: Hover over the first cell in any row (in a table) and select the ‘arrow’ button that appears to ‘Open Details’ for an individual row.
    • Alternatively: Right-click on the first cell in a table.
      • From the drop-down, select ‘Open Detail View’ (on a row).
    • Boards: Click ‘Open detail view’  (double-arrow icon) to populate the details window.
      • Alternatively: Select ‘…’ (card options) button on individual cards.
        • From the drop-down menu, select ‘View Details’.
  • Inside the panel that opens, add:
    • Notes and explanations.
    • Subtasks using ‘Checklist.’
    • Active links or comments with ‘@mentions’ for collaboration.
    • Images (type the ‘/’ key to view options available from the ‘insert menu’).
  • Close the panel by clicking outside of it—your data is automatically saved and synced.
  • You can reopen any item at any time to review or update its detailed view.

TIP: Keeping the top-level row or card brief makes it easier to quickly scan/read. Let the detail panel carry the extra context and background.

Once you are comfortable using Detailed View, a few small adjustments can make your workflow even smoother. These tips will help you stay organized and collaborate more efficiently.

  • Add tags or dropdowns for status, owner, or category to help filter and organize entries.
  • Pair Detailed View with active links to recorded walkthrough videos for richer async collaboration.
  • Keep checklists inside the panel to track individual task steps or approval stages.
  • Use ‘@mentions’ to assign or notify team members directly inside the context of the item.

Detailed View adds structure and depth to your Loop pages without cluttering your workspace. It’s a simple way to keep everything—from notes to videos to checklists—in one place, right where your team needs it.
