Loop Tips: Record and Share Video – Tech Tip for June 18, 2025
In this week’s tech tip, we’re spotlighting a powerful new addition to Microsoft Loop’s insert menu: the ability to record and embed videos—both webcam and screen captures—directly into your pages. Thanks to recent integrations with Clipchamp and Stream, this feature makes async collaboration more personal and effective, whether you’re explaining a concept, reviewing a design, or guiding someone through a process—no extra apps or links needed.
Why Use Video Recording in Microsoft Loop?
Not everything can—or should—be explained in a long message. Loop’s new recording tool helps you:
- Save time on meetings by sharing walkthroughs asynchronously
- Provide rich context for documents, dashboards, or decisions
- Bring a human touch to remote updates or feedback
Your video stays embedded in the Loop page where it’s most relevant—no more searching email threads or messaging apps for that one explanation someone recorded.

Record and Share Updates in Microsoft Loop
Recording a video in Microsoft Loop is so simple and built right into the interface—no extensions or separate tools required. Whether you’re capturing a quick update or walking through a full process, you can embed it seamlessly within your page.
- Navigate in any browser to Microsoft Loop: loop.cloud.microsoft
- On any Loop Workpage, type: “/video”.
- Alternatively: Select the ‘Insert’ button (the ‘Plus’ icon).
- In the drop-down menu, select ‘Record video.’
- Choose what you want to capture:
- Your ‘Camera’ (for face-to-face updates)
- Your ‘Mic’ (if you would like to record audio during)
- Your ‘Screen’ (for tutorials or walkthroughs)
- Or both at once for a picture-in-picture effect
- Click ‘Start recording’ or ‘Start screen recording’ to begin
- Select the ‘Stop’ button when you’re done.
- Hit the purple ‘arrow’ button to embed the video on your Loop page.
- After the finished video is embedded on the page, you and your team can watch, discuss, and collaborate around it in Loop (with help from Stream).
TIP: Select the ‘Script’ button in the ‘Record’ window to add a script to help make the recorded audio sound more polished.

Recording Clear and Professional Videos
Want your videos to sound and look great? Follow these quick tech tips to ensure your recordings are polished, distraction-free, and easy for your team to follow.
- Use a headset or external microphone: For crisp, clear audio use a headset or external microphone—built-in laptop mics often pick up background noise.
- Close unrelated tabs or apps: Before you share your screen close any private or unnecessary windows or apps to avoid distractions (ex. email or chat notifications).
- Pause desktop notifications: This can help to prevent pop-ups from interrupting your recording (in Windows: Settings > System > Notifications > Toggle to ‘Off’).
- Speak slowly and clearly: Speak clearly and review your recorded content post-recording especially if your video will be viewed by external teams or reused later.
- Add a short summary or action list: Add a summary below your video in Loop so viewers can quickly reference key points or next steps.
Great Ways to Use Loop’s Record and Share Feature
Not sure where to start with in-app recording? Here are some practical, real-world scenarios where Loop’s video tool can replace long meetings, improve clarity, and boost team efficiency.
- Quick Status Updates: Skip the daily meeting and drop a short video recap into your Loop workspace. It’s faster, more flexible, and great for asynchronous teams.
- Design Walkthroughs: Share your screen to guide teammates through Figma updates or technical prototypes, explaining your thought process along the way.
- New Hire Onboarding: Record reusable welcome messages or walkthroughs of tools, processes, and expectations—perfect for growing teams or remote hires.
- Bug or Issue Reporting: Visually demonstrate a tech issue or error by capturing it in real time. No more guessing games for your development or support teams.
Loop’s in-app recording isn’t just a novelty—it’s a practical tool for modern work. With a few clicks, you can reduce back-and-forth, speed up collaboration, and communicate more effectively, all without ever leaving the workspace.
Give it a try next time you’re writing a long explanation—you might just record it instead!
