How to Use Multi-Tenant Organization in Teams to Collaborate with Other Companies – Tech Tip For September 13, 2023
Whether it’s a joint venture, a partnership on a specific project, or even a temporary alliance to meet a common goal, sometimes organizations need to collaborate to succeed.
Managing these collaborations can be challenging, especially when it comes to communication and data sharing, but Microsoft has further expanded Teams’ capabilities to cater to multi-tenant organizations (MTOs). This feature enhancement allows users to search for employees, chat, join meetings, and more across different tenants in side-by-side windows.
How to Set Up Multi-Tenant Organizations in Teams
You can connect up to five tenants in a multi-tenant organization, and each tenant can only be connected to a single MTO. Here’s how to configure your MTO and maximize your collaborative efforts:
- Open the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Navigate to the ‘Org Settings’ section.
- Select the ‘Organization profile’ tab.
- Follow the prompts to enter the tenant’s name, description, and identifiers.
- Continue through the setup process and configure synchronization settings as prompted.
Administrators of each tenant must accept an invite to join the MTO for these capabilities to be enabled, but once accepted, Microsoft Teams will automatically activate the MTO features.
Teams MTO Availability & Future Plans
Currently, this feature is only available for commercial users on the Windows desktop Teams app, but Microsoft has plans to expand it to the Teams apps on iOS, Android, MacOS, and the web soon, ensuring universal accessibility and ease of use.
