Tech Tips: Loop Components – Tech Tip for February 25, 2025
This week’s Tech Tip covers the process of sending a Loop component within a Microsoft Teams Channel. Microsoft Loop is a tool that enables teams to collaborate using editable, real-time components and pages. Additionally, we discuss how utilizing format options such as creating tables, bulleted task lists, collapsible headings, and more within your component, can enhance productivity and help organize information for your team. Let’s dive in!

Create Loop Components in Teams Channels
- Open Microsoft Teams: Ensure you are logged into Teams, either on the app or on your browser (teams.microsoft.com)
- Navigate to a Channel: Select the ‘Chat’ tab and go to the ‘Chats and Channels’ section.
- Alternatively: select the ‘Teams’ tab (if Chat and Channels are not combined).
- Select the ‘Teams and channel’ where you want to post the Loop component.
- Start a Conversation: Click on the ‘Start a post’ button or ‘Reply’ to an existing thread.
- Insert a Loop Component:
- In the compose area, click the ‘Loop’ icon button to begin.
- Add text or data and format the Loop component in the editable field provided.
- Select the ‘Post’ button to send your message to the Channel.
TIP: Try using the ‘@mention’ feature in your message to tag team members directly, ensuring they notice your Loop component, and are notified.

Customize Loop Components
Let’s go over a few Loop component features. You can customize your Loop component by adding content—whether it’s tasks, data, or text—tailored to your team’s needs.
- Insert text: Click into the editable Loop component to draft your idea. By default, the component appears pre-formatted, allowing you to easily add text or data to communicate to your team.
- Table: Click to select the ‘Table’ button to add an editable pre-formatted 2-column table into your component.
- Bulleted list: Select the ‘Bulleted list’ button to add a new editable bullet list item into a section in your Loop component.
- More options: Click the ‘…’ (ellipses) button to select from more options.
- From the drop-down that appears, select from menu options such as Checklist, Q&A Session, Progress Tracker, Kanban board, and others.
TIP: If you are unsure of which type of Loop component option to use, consider starting with a simple Bulleted list to keep things organized, and easily trackable.
Collaborate in Real-Time
All members of the channel should be able to edit and interact with your posted Loop component in real-time. To make sure your Loop component remains up to date, encourage your team to leave comments or edits directly within the component, so everything stays in one place. Try adding collapsible headings into your component sections for even more organization!

Create Collapsible Section Headers
Collapsible headings in Loop allow you to expand or collapse text or data section content as you keep working from the Loop component or page. This feature is perfect for keeping your workspace clutter-free while still having access to all the information you need (especially within smaller views while working with Loop components in Teams and channels).

Use Collapsible Headings in Loop Components (in Teams):
- Click on ‘Reply’ or ‘Post’ in a Teams channel: Select the ‘Loop’ icon button.
- Edit the Loop component to add and format your text or data.
- From the secondary section menu: Select the ‘+’ (plus) button.
- Scroll the menu options to find the Text styles section:
- Select from available ‘Collapsible heading’ options. Select a ‘heading’ style option to create a Collapsible heading for a section.
- View the Loop component in a browser: Click the Loop ‘title’ of the component’s ‘active link’ at top-left (to right of Loop logo) to navigate directly to loop.cloud.microsoft.
TIP: For better organization, group similar topics together under collapsible sections. This will make it easier to navigate lengthy text and data stored in components and help you and your team to quickly find what you’re looking for.
TIP: Loop components in Teams Channels are named based on the title of your component. Edit the “Add a title” field to change the ‘.loop’ extension file name. These files are stored in OneDrive under ‘My Files’ in the ‘Microsoft Teams Chat Files’ folder and can also be viewed and edited in Loop under ‘Recent pages and components.’
