Last week we talked about Microsoft Teams as a way to team… but maybe your team plays the game differently!
Well…did you know that you can ‘Unite your team’ with Office 365 Groups?
With Groups you can accomplish a variety of goals:
- You can organize and work with a team on a project
- You can find and share information using conversations
- You can share and collaborate on team files
- You can share milestones and schedules on the team calendar
- You can add and assign team tasks using Microsoft Planner, and add new members to your group so they can get caught up with the team.
Office 365 Groups is actually one of the pieces that Microsoft Teams is built upon but it can used on its own too, as well as accessed from Outlook. However, did you think to yourself that this is getting confusing? Everything sounds similar and can do a lot of similar tasks? Here are a couple features that differentiate Groups from Teams:
1. A Microsoft Team creates its own Office 365 Group or can be connected to an existing one, BUT an Office 365 Group does not provision a Team.
2. Each Microsoft Team channel creates a new section in the OneNote within the Office 365 Group, BUT you cannot access the sections of the OneNote file that existed before the Team channel was created.
